About - Catalog of Bluetooth® Mesh Products - BluKo

Motivation

When we first started developing apps for Bluetooth® Mesh, we realized that there are only very few off-the-shelf products that you can easily buy online. All we wanted are a couple of products that we could easily use to get acquainted with the technology, the tooling, SDKs, libraries, etc.

So we started buying products that claimed to use some kind of Bluetooth® mesh technology. Many of those products didn’t actually support the mesh protocol standardized by the Bluetooth® SIG, but instead used some proprietary version of it, which is not what we’ve been looking for.

We’ve manually tested those products and wrote down our findings. Since we think this might be valuable information - especially for developers new to Bluetooth® Mesh - we’ve decided to publish our findings in a structured and searchable form.

About the project

This website should serve as a resource for Bluetooth® Mesh product specifications and interoperability data, helping developers to make informed decisions when building mesh networks. It can be used to answer the following questions:

  • What is a cheap Bluetooth® Mesh product that I can simply buy online?
  • I need to test my implementation of a ‘Generic Battery Client’. Is there a product that I can buy which does support the ‘Generic Battery Server’ model?
  • What companies generally offer standardized Bluetooth® Mesh products?
  • What are the best practices in designing the elements and models of a Bluetooth® Mesh product? How do others do it?
  • Which two products should I buy if I want them to interact with each other?
  • And hopefully more :)

About Bluetooth® Mesh

Unlike classic Bluetooth® and Bluetooth® LE, Bluetooth® Mesh connects smart products in a network. Products forward messages to each other, enabling communication beyond direct Bluetooth® range across hundreds of meters.

Through Bluetooth® SIG standardization, products from different manufacturers can communicate. A dimmer from one vendor can control a fan from another, reducing dependencies and enabling sustainable systems.
